Whenever I click on a link in my mail or a newsgroup, I get this error message:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel"
I am using Windows Mail.

What is the file extension, .doc .pdf etc?

Ensure that WM has all its defaults set, go to default programs, either
from the Start menu or in control panel.
set your default programs>wait for the list to populate>WM>set this program
as default.

I will assume you are clicking on a URL link, and your web browser
is Internet Explorer. If so:
Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from
the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item:
"Set your default programs."
After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on "Internet
Explorer". If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults"
then fix it by clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.
