I have bought a Sitecom USB network cableCN-101v2 and i
have windosw xp on my new computer and windows 98se on
the 2nd computer and i am having horrendous problems
getting file sharing from one to the other
Have used files and settings transfer wizard but not
getting any info from other machine. Have I bought the
right connector? Have i done something wrong in
instalation even though I have followed Sitecom booklet
to the letter.
All I ever get is cable unplugged and no sign of the 2nd
computer link up. Please advise. Is it best to undelete
all the other connections and restart again.

Hi,

The network option only supports direct serial (null modem) cables, which is
excrutiatingly slow. Try instead mapping a drive on the other machine across
the network, then setting the fastwiz to export the data to the mapped drive
using "other".

Hi thanks for your answer but this is all new to me,
could you please tell me step by step or point me into
the direction how i do this mapping of drives and why a
cable i purchased cannot do the specific job. thank you

Hi,

The cable you purchased can, but only n a roundabout way. It's because the
program (fastwiz) only supports certain types of network connections, it's
not a system limitation.

On the machine you are transferring from, right-click the Network
Neighborhood and select the option to map a drive. Choose a drive letter
that is currently unused (for example, let's say "Z"), then browse to the
other machine and select one of the drives available to you. Then when you
run the fastwiz, instead of network, choose other, and put in the drive
letter you chose as the destination, say Z:\
