Linking to a spreadsheet

I'm trying to link to a spreadsheet but the Linked Manager button is greyed
out. How do I do that? I'm using Access 2007. I've checked Help but it
doesn't seem to explain what to do unless I've meissed something.

In Access 2007, External Data, Excel (or whatever spreadsheet you are
using)...
