Linking Tables

When I link tables - File > Get External data > Link tables..., I can change
information in the Excel sheet and the change is reflected in the access
table; however I am not allowed to make any changes to the access linked
table - anyone know why?

Because the Excelsheet being the source. If you need to edit then you have to
import the sheet(table).

Microsoft lost a lawsuit last year, and was forced to remove the ability to
update linked Excel spreadsheets from Access.

Hi Doug,

That's news for me. What does this mean in terms of Access versions? Can it
still be used in older versions or is it simply banned from the latest
version. Seems strange though as they are both from the same manufacturer.
Competetive reasons from other companies?

Doug,

Thanx for the link to the article. It explains the SP's of that time. There
was never much publicity in my country (netherlands) about that.

Microsoft didn't exactly publicize it, for reasons I don't understand. <g>
