Linking Excel to Access problem!

i have a file i wrote in .xls and would like to link it to
my access, but when i select the linking, it only lets
me "select file types: MDB" it wont allow me to select
anything else, only access files!

all of the office features are install on my xp machine,
everything.
 
Are you saying that other file types are not available in the dropdown list
for the type of files?
