Linking Excel 2002 files to Access 2000 - changes the format

When I Link and excel file to access, it changes the format of the data.

In my excel file all of the cells are formatted as Text.
When I open the linked file in Acess, it changes one of the columns of data
to a "Number" Format.

The data is numbers, but it represents text and I do not want it formated as
a number.

The problem it creates is that I when I create a Query and try to link the
data to another table, it won't let me because the other table is text?????

Insert a ' character at the beginning of each cell's value for that column
in the EXCEL file. That should let Jet (ACCESS) treat that column's values
as text and not number.

Or insert a dummy row of data as the first row, with nonnumeric characters
in the cell in that column. That should let Jet (ACCESS) treat that column's
values as text and not number.

Or import the data into a temporary table in ACCESS, and use an append query
to copy the data to a table that has the correct data type for the
corresponding field, and then use this table for your ACCESS work.
