Linked Numbered Sequences in Word 2002 Problem

Dale Wood

The more I work with Word, the more puzzling it becomes. With Word 2002, I
inserted a link to text (as paste special and HTML) with several numbered
sequences. The sequences are numbered correctly in the source document (1,
2, 3, ...) but seems to start randomly in the target document (28, 29, 30,
....). I can renumber in the target but every time I reopen that document,
it's still wrong. Ideas on how to get the linked sequence correct?

Hi Dale

How are you numbering in the source - paragraph style, list style or direct
formatting?

I'm guessing the root cause is that the numbering in the source is (or is
being interpreted as) 'continue from previous' and you have other numbering
in the target that it is continuing from. However, getting to a fix may be
difficult! See http://www.syntagma.demon.co.uk/FAQs/ListRestartMethods.htm
for workarounds in a single document - may give you some ideas.
