Linked Image

Hi,

We have a bunch of files where we have a header image called banner1 on some
of our policies. This image is a linked image that I have within a 'images'
folder.

The path looks like this in word.
{includepicture "images/banner.gif"\* Mergeformat \d}

So now what we want to do is, when we archive a file. We want to be able to
move the file into a 'archived' folder. This archive folder also has an
'images' folder. Inside this image folder it has a image named 'banner.gif'
but this version of the image has the words 'ARCHIVED' in so people know it's
not the current one.

So when I move the file to the archived foler, since the path is the same I
was hoping that the other image would appear. Instead, it still shows the
banner image from the current folder. It's like it embeds the image, instead
of linking too it.

Is there something I need to do, to make this work? I don't want to have
to update the image everytime we move files to archived status.

I hope I expained what I want to do OK, if not let me know.

Thanks.

You will find some code available that you can use to create a macro that
will help you blast through your archived documents pointing the linked
images to the proper locations.

Is there a non macro way of doing what I need?

How does Word link to images? If I use a relative link, if I move to a
different directory but keep the same path to the images folder. Why doesn't
the new image appear?

I do this all the time with HTML documents. Where I can move a file to a
new home, but might need a different banner across the top. So I just
duplicate the path to the images folder, and replace the images with the same
file name.

When I saw you can link to images in Word, I thought it would do the same
thing?
