Linked cells in one workbook

I've linked cells in one workbook. Now, when I edit the
source cell, the destination cell doesn't update by
itself. Only when I double click on the cell, or press F2
on the cell, it updates. Strange thing is, this only
happens in certain cells, the others update
automatically. (in the same workbook) I can't determine
what the criteria for the updating is.
It's quite a big workbook, and will take hours to double
check each cell every time I use it.

It sounds like the calculation mode is not set to automatic:

Tools|options|calculation tab|(Check automatic)

Excel determines this setting from the first workbook you opened in that
session. (So you'll want to save your workbook with calc set to automatic--but
remember where you changed it. It could (pronounced will) happen again.)
