Hello VistaRookie,

okay, now this solution seems to work fine for 95% of the times, which is
cool with me.... but I just got a reply from a customer that she still
can't open the link while if I click on the link in the email she replied
to, it works just fine for me... Can it be cause as well by the fact I am
using Firefox and the receiver Internet Explorer??

Thxs,
Ellen

Okidoki, I already checked my default programs, which I read somewhere and
I
will try this as well!
read also somewhere this was a known bug in Windos Mail and Windows Live
mail...

Also will check prior to sending if the hyperlink shows correctly (meaning
starting with HTTP). Hopefully in this case the links will work better /
more often then currently!

It is possible the problem is on her end.
Does she have problems opening links from others?
Is she using Windows Mail?

Otherwise, about the only thing I can think of, is to have her
forward one of your emails with the broken link, as an
attachment. Then you could see the link, exactly the same as
she sees it. If you have your status bar active
(Email Menu->View->Status Bar) you'd be able to see if
that code, which breaks the link, appears just before the link.

I had Firefox set as my default browser. I have done some testing and made
IE.8 my default browser.
if I then emailed the links to myself, having Firefox open.
Received the email and clicked on the link which opened in IE, it was ending
in an error.

I closed Firefox and sent a new email with the same text, received it and
clicked on the link, it worked fine
The same results when I have IE open... so maybe having Firefox open at
time of sending the email, is causing a problem for people having IE as
their default browser...

Since it are pretty standard msgs I sent to my customers, when I ship de
shipping details, I will need to learn to close down Firefox when I sent
them the details. Maybe that will have better results then I seem to have
now with them.

The original problem was...an email that is placed into the
draft folder and the link is then copy/pasted to a new email
which results in the new link being broken. I get that
without FF being installed. I only use IE. So, I can't verify
about FF.

Did you look at the source code when you have FF open, to
see if it is the same problem as the original problem?

Since I see you have IE8 installed, have you experienced a
problem trying to open attachements? This would apply to
all or almost all filetypes (jpg, pps, doc, etc;)?

There have been several threads where attachments cannot
be opened - they have to be saved to the hard drive and
then opened with the appropriate program. The only sure
cure is to uninstall IE8 and revert back to IE7. Not everyone
using IE8 gets the problem. You might check?

How do I uninstall or remove Internet Explorer 8?:

When I had FF still as default Browser and if I have FF open and copy/past
the text into a email, bcc myself, sent the msg while leaving the draft
open, like you suggested then I can open the links without prolbems, but
the customers still encountered problems I understood.

Somebody told me that FF and Windows Mail do bite each other at times..
That is why I made the changes I described and that seems so far do things
better for my customers too, but might be too early to tell so far. A
little bit more work for me, but looks much better towards the customers if
it works better and that is what counts!

I have hardly any problems (knock on wood) opening files which I receive,
but then again, I haven't open many yet since I made IE my default browser
again.
I am not sure if I want to go thru the hazzle right now of uninstalling
IE.8...

Thanks so far!
Ellen
