Link Bars, Dynamic Web Templates and confusion...

I

Iain

I'm an experienced developer and have done a lot of HTML. Now I'm trying to
have an easy life by using front page 2003.

My first problem is that when I set up a navigation structure based link
bar, it looks fine in front page, but the links always show as text when
previewing in a browser.

I gave up on that one (why by the way does the link bar not support the
interactive button styles?).

Now I'm working with Dynamic Web Templates. I've created one fine and
attached it to the (7) pages in my site. But I can't make the links work.
I've set them all to be relative 'about_us.htm' and so on, but when I try
and preview the page they don't work as they appear to be set to an absolute
file location in the actual pages they are attached to.

Unless I'm missing something (which is really fairly likely) the integration
between DWT and Navigation and so on is not particurarly good (I did put a
Link bar in the DWT, but that suffered the text only links issue).

Is there a good resource site dealing with DWT. The books I've got and the
sites I've found seem to give it very short space for the apparent
importance of hte concept.

Thanks for help!

Iain

Nav bars / links bars show as buttons only when you apply a theme to the nav bar (FP2002+ & FP2002 SE required) or the page (all
versions w/o the FP SE)

Interactive button are not intended to be used w/ link bars and are intended to be used in lieu of nav view and nav bars (so you are
not constrained by their limitations)

Set your DWT links as relative to the DWT (by browsing to the pages in your site) in a non editable region
When you apply the DWT to your pages it should adjust the links relative to the pages using the DWT

Thanks Stefan.
Nav bars / links bars show as buttons only when you apply a theme to the
nav bar (FP2002+ & FP2002 SE required) or the page (all
versions w/o the FP SE)
So selecting the theme in the wizards isn't enough? As I said the buttons
appear fine in the design view. I have Front Page 2003.
Interactive button are not intended to be used w/ link bars and are
intended to be used in lieu of nav view and nav bars (so you are
not constrained by their limitations) Yeah, but shame, eh?

Set your DWT links as relative to the DWT (by browsing to the pages in
your site) in a non editable region
When you apply the DWT to your pages it should adjust the links relative
to the pages using the DWT

Thank you that worked fine.
