Link Bar Graphics Problem

Guest

Hi all,

I am really stumped on a Link Bar problem on a prototype page I am working
on for a redesign of our site at this link:

http://www.mccdc.com/NewSite/index.htm

As you will see, the links show up as text links instead of with the buttons
I want. I've addresssed everything I know to do:
1. The ISP has reinstalled FP extensions and I've checked and they are the
2002 extensions.
2. The relevant theme graphics have been downloaded to the server.
3. When I open the page on the server from within FP instead of the
browser, the grapics show up properly.
4. I've done the link recalculation on the server.

Am now out of ideas. Any suggestions much appreciated.

You have to apply a theme to your site to get buttons.

Humm. Are you sure? FP seems to indicate that you can creat custom link
bars that use buttons from a theme without applying the theme to the entire
site--something I don't want to do. Also, the buttons show up just fine in
FP without applying the them to the entire site.

Thanks Stefan,

Yes, I know. I've already verified that. Following a clue from some
other threads, I have also double checked to make sure there are no spaces
between file or folder names. And I tried Thomas suggestion to apply the
theme to the entire page, not just to the link bar in the shared border.
Nada! It only screwed up the design of my page and did not solve the problem.

To recap, proper link bar buttons appear on my link bar in the shared
border on my page when I view the page from with FP--correct when viewing
both the local copy and the copy on the server within FP. However, when
published (and yes, using http), only underlined text links appear.

Very frustrating!

I see neither images or text for your left include page nav bar at http://www.mccdc.com/NewSite/index.htm

Sorry Stefan. While I was away on travel, my ISP tried some things to help
me and that resulted in the links disappearing until I republished the page.
The page should now show up with the underlinded text links so you can see
the problem.

Thanks for any ideas you may have.

I've run across a possible clue. Any thoughts on whether this might be the
source of the problem and what to tell the ISP about solving it?

It appears that the ISP has installed the 2002 FP extensions. When I open
the site on the server in FP and go to Site Administration, a Front Page
Server Extensions 2002 page shows up as it should. However, when I go to
tools/site settings/general tab, the line where the version of the FP
extensions should appear is blank. I'm not sure whether this indicates some
setting error on their part or not. By the way, if it makes any difference,
the site is running Apache under Unix.

Ask your host to run a check on the extensions or re-install the extensions for your account.

Thanks Thomas. After things going from bad to worse with my ISPs help desk
personnel, I finally wound up uninstalling and then reinstalling the
extensions myself via their control panel. This in turn seems to have
isolated the problem, but I am not sure how to fix it.

It looks like a path problem. The extensions install produced these two
error messages: "Error #2001d Message: Theme path doesn't exist "Ice" not
found. Error #2001d Message: Theme path doesn't exist "Ice" not found." The
theme graphic files are on the server in _themes/ice, but for some reason the
extensions don't find that path.

Open the live/remote site and run Tools | Recalculate Hyperlink and if that doesn't solve the
problem, then do a complete re-publish of the site from your local copy.

i'M Thinking you might be on the wrong track perhaps, barking up the
wrong tree so to speak :)
~ link buttons are images - generally with the text as part of the
image, then the hyperlink inserted to the image, I wonder if you'v
perhaps updated to a "test" html - before committing the changes to
the "real thing" - and have uploaded the wrong html - the one without
the image links? - just a thought~ cos regardless of themes and isp
having this or that installed - you should see the buttons (images) no
matter what.... and in the html of this page - I see no reference to
any images - other than the obvious .
--- drop me an email if you want to do a one on one, helping hand with
resolving this.
