LINES GRAYED OUT IN DRAW TOOLBAR

I want to put a 2" graphics line between announcement paragraphs in a bulletin, but the lines on the Draw toolbar are grayed out, as is the option to set "autoshape defaults." Why would that be

Thank you

I think you're looking at the Line Style button. That is not enabled unless
you have already drawn a line and selected it. What you need to click on is
the Line tool. Draw your line, holding down Shift to constrain it to the
horizontal. Just draw any line. When you've finished it, you can set the
weight of the line, as well as its length and position, through the Format
AutoShape dialog (right-click and choose Format AutoShape, *not* Set
AutoShape Defaults, which applies the current formatting settings to all
subsequently created AutoShapes).
