line series order Excel 2007

I have charts with over 5 series.
I mostly reorder them by selecting the series and update the ordernumber in
the formula of the series displayed in the formula bar, but ...
the selected series is very often NOT showed in the formula bar , why is that?

If you have actually selected a series, its formula will appear in the
formula bar. If you've clicked on something else, like a data label, there
will be no series formula. In the Name box (Excel 2003 & earlier) or in the
top left of the two rightmost chart tools tabs, the name of the selected
chart element will be displayed, so you can tell if you have not selected a
series.

I agree
but this is what happens;
all series (except 2 which are scatter defined) have the same X-axis labels,
which is defined as a named range on a different sheet (say
=sheet2.xlsx'!range2).
When I select 1 series of the graph, I might change the order number, but
at the same time the X-axis labels chages in the same namedrange within
single quotes (sheet2.xlsx'!'range2') resulting in a weard performance of
this series on the chart.
In this case I have to check all series for correct X-axis labels and remove
all single quotes and then it's ok. Why can't I define, as in previous
Excels, the X-axis labels only once instead of for all series separated?

Ah yes, Excel 2007. There are some strange things with named ranges and
Excel 2007 charts. Since I am lucky enough to have the flexibility, I use
only Excel 2003 for almost everything, and only 2007 when a client has a
problem with it.

I don't know why this is, except that they surely didn't mean for it to be
so. Perhaps Excel 2010 will be less quirky.
