Line numbering started adding an {1} to the left of the line numbe

Hi,
I've been using a template for the past several weeks without a problem. It
includes line number. Now this morning all the documents that use this
template have line number that look like this;
{1} 1
{1} 2
{1} 3
{1} 4 etc

How do I get rid of the extra {1} and where did it come from. It does not
appear in the normal template line number.
 
Looks like you may be viewing your field codes. Try this:

Open the document
Go to Tools | Options | View Tab
Make sure that Field codes (top right) is NOT checked
If it is, uncheck it and click OK.
