I am having trouble when I try and record audio from a
VCR onto my computer. When I plug the audio cable into
the line in on my computer the sound only plays on one
speaker and records this way too (mono). Am I doing
something wrong or is there something I've missed?

I have a stereo cable. In fact I think we've tried more
than one cable.

Did you also try those same cables on any other device? For example a radio.

How do you know it records mono? Are you just playing it back on the
computer. In that case it might be a broken speaker.

Double-check that the plugs are fully-seated in the jacks. A 3-conductor plug partially inserted
will give mono sound.
