they are right. I am not overly technical so you will have to forgive me if I
get this wrong. However, from checking my router settings, I am using WPA-PSK
and have used a TKIP (?) password. In Vista, under the security settings for
the network connection it is set to WPA-Personal (I don't think there is a
WPA-PSK option). From looking through the forum it seems there are a few
people having this problem. I did see someone suggesting a regedit cure but I
am VERY reluctant to start fiddling with the registry on a day-old laptop
unless I have to (althougn I have burned a copy of the original factory
settings). I am at work at the moment, but when I get home I will copy the
ipconfig/all settings.
I also saw mentioned something to do with DCHP? In my router settings, this
is set to enabled - should it be?
This forum is fantastic for computer idiots like me - the tragedy is, I used
to be okay with computers when I had my original 486, but times have left me
lagging!

Just bought an Acer 9301 AWS laptop with Windows Vista and am having
trouble
accessing the internet using the wireless adapter. I have no problem when
using the ethernet cable. According to the control panel, I am connected
to
the network,but have 'limited connectivity'. I hav tried doing the things
it
suggests (moving away from cordless phones etc) and have scoured the help
filed but to no avail. It seems as if it is struggling to obtain an IP
address. The router is a cable and wireless 11g ADSL2+ router if that
helps.
If you need any more technical info let me know.
What security mode do you use on your router? I had this problem with my new
laptop, long story short, had to change my router settings from using WEP128
to WPA-PSK and it solved my problem. Apparently there is an issue with
WEP128 and Vista with some routers and no real fix. I wouldn't have minded
changing to WPA-PSK but the CF wireless card I have for my PDA doesn't
support it.
