limited connectivity on two xp machines

i am trying to network two xp machines, my tower has full connectivity
whereas the laptop i am trying to network with has limited connectivity also
i can see and access the shared files on the tower from the laptop, however i
don't see the shared files that are on the laptop from the tower. does anyone
have any idea how to resolve this?

If you're getting a "limited or no connectivity" message but still able to see
one computer from the other (but not necessarily both ways), you probably have a
network with no DHCP server, and you're getting APIPA addresses. This is normal
and acceptable.

Asymmetric visibility / access is possibly caused by a firewall problem, or a
browser conflict. Work on the firewall problem, then examine the browser
situation.
