limit file download

I have file that I want to make available for only certain visitors to my
site. I'd like to give these visitors a password to get to the file.

For example, after a visitor completes a request form, I'd like to email him
a link to a download site and credentials to use to get the file. Is this
possible?

Additionally, can I locate the file on the server so that it cannot be
imported into Frontpage by anyone who feels like it?

If your host has cPanel, you can make new folders, password protect them,
drop customer info pages into the folders and provide your customers with the
username and password of the folders where their info is stored.
