Life-Cycle end means no more updates?

Hello on this page it says that 1 year after the release of vista,
xp support for retail-oem will stop... do they mean that the online updates
will stop
too? or what?

I want to avoid vista since it has too many problems and wait for the next
OS

Yes, automatic updates (probably). You'll still be able to update manually.
Millions will still be using WindowsXP in the year 2010. Mainstream
support for all versions of Windows XP will continue at least until April
14, 2009.
The upgrade from XP to Vista runs $99 and the retail version is $199.
