Library Download Error 0x80072EFD

Hello all:
I am trying to download Windows XP SP1 and a
few other critical updates and the installation fails. On
reviewing the update.log file, I see records which read:

Library download error. Will retry. (Error 0x80072EFD)
Download finished (Error 0x80072EFD)

etc

Please help me figure out what is going on.

Thanks,
VJ

What happens when you D/L SP1 by itself. It is supposed to be installed
separately from all other updates. Moreover, some of the other updates you
see in the list with SP1 will go away once you install it.

I had to download SP-1 by itself. I also tried downloading
the security patch by itself. Same error and same record
in the update.log file.

Strange thing is I installed the security patch for RPC
vulnerability 3 days ago and it is again brought up by
Windows Update. Also, I thought I had installed SP-1 last
year but the 'Installation History" records that
installation to be Failed. But, Windows Update did not
bring up the SP-1 upgrade until now and even worse I am
not able to update my system at all.

I dug a little on my PC and have written a new
post summarizing the issue. Please read it and let me know
your thoughts. As an aside, is it OK to install the
network version on a single PC? And, what if prior
attempts at installing SP-1 had failed with potentially
partial updates? Can I try a fresh installation using the
network download or should I stick with the Express
installation (as it says it will only download the
necessary files)

Thanks,
VJ
