LG Flatron L1710B color/colour depth problem

Before I begin: I'm running Windows 2000, but there don't seem to be Windows
2000 newsgroups any more except for foreign languages, so I figured here
would be the next best thing.

I've recently bought an LG Flatron L1710B. I'm very happy with it, except
that now, when I put the desktop into a 32bit colour depth, there's no
difference from 16bit colour. I see the exact same banding patterns on
colour gradients, whichever bit depth I choose. This seems strange because
the monitor claims to display 16.2m colours, which corresponds to (almost)
32bit colour depth.

There are a number of things that might be at fault here:
a) The monitor actually can't display more than 16bit colour.
b) The monitor driver file incorrectly says it can't display more than 16bit
colour.
c) The graphics card doesn't do more than 16bit colour.

I don't think it's a) because that would mean the spec is plain wrong. I
don't think it's b) because I can change the monitor profile to be "Plug and
Play Monitor" instead and the problem persists. I don't think it's c)
because colour gradients were perfectly smooth on the CRT I had before, and
I haven't changed the card or its drivers at all.

The graphics card is an nVidia GeForce2 GTS with 32Mb of RAM, which is
plenty for displaying 32bit colour. The display is connected to it via the
VGA cable, since the graphics card has no DVI output. Could it be that the
monitor only does full colour depth if connected via DVI? I can find nothing
in the manual to indicate this, but I suppose it's possible.

Can anyone shed any light on the matter? Many thanks,
George

Hello

Sounds like maybe it more of an issue with your monitor and not your
video ok. I would consult with the manufacturer of that monitor and
talk to their T Support people and get that info from them

Hi,

Try to connect the monitor to other PC and check for the
display resolution. However, I would first update the
vedio card drivers from nvidia.com
In most case, if the monitor cannot display 32bit color;
the problems are from the vedio card.
By the way, if your monitor have both DVI and VGA input
connector, there should not be any problems for using the
VGA output of the vedio card unless your monitor only
have DVI input and you use a DVI/VGA adapter whick might
cause problems.
