"lexplorer" message pop-up during browser launch

I am running windows 98 and run IE 6.0. Recently I am getting a pop-up
titled"lexplorer", which tells me to shut down the browser. Occasionally I
can use the browser in the background even when this pop-up appears, but
usually I get stuck and just shut down IE. I've tried to run through "my
computer" as well, but I get an "explorer" message there and I am forced to
shut down as well. I've re-installed all the updates to IE but that hasn't
helped either? Any help on this would be appreciated, thanks.
 
The heading shows "lexplorer", and the message says explorer cannot be run
properly and to shut down. I then click close, and the pop-up/browser close
down.
