Lexmark printer cartridge too full!!!

All:
My black printer cartridge ran out of ink and I refilled it with
ink from a refill kit. It seems that I refilled the cartridge with too
much ink because it is not leaking and causing a cartridge short. I
cleaned up my Lexmark X83 and it's alright now; but, what do I do about
the overfilled cartridge? Should I put in head down in some cleaner or
distilled water overnight to let out some of the extra ink? If not, how
do I get the extra ink out of this cartridge?

Sorry, I meant that it is "now" leaking and causing a cartridge short.

I don't know what you used to refill the cartridge with. But if you used
a syringe then simply withdraw some of the ink out of the cartridge with
the same syringe. The alternative would be to lay the cartridge on some
folded paper towels for a while and let the paper absorb the excess ink.

I had a Lexmark Z55 once. After filling the cartridges the ink would
bleed (drip slowly) out of the printhead for a while until correct
pressurization was achieved. Only after it stops dripping are you
supposed to put it back in the printer. Similar to HP, because of the
attached printhead.

With Canon cartridges it's different and totally clean. You fill them
90% full (they're clear you can see through them) and that's it, they
never leak - provided you properly resealed the fill hole. And that's
easy as pie to do. Fool-proof refilling.
