letters cut off in cell

Sometimes when I type a number of letters in a cell, the letters get cut off
at the end of the cell width however sometimes the letters extend into the
next cell and do not get hidden. I do not want to format the cell to wrap
text and I do not want to extend the width of the cell but I would like my
letters to automatically extend across the next cell if necessary so that all
letters are visible. Is there a method to do this? I am not sure why this
works sometimes and not others. Note that the the cells to the right are
blank. Thanks for your help.

If the cell to the right is clear (empty) then the text will extend.
If there is something in the cell to the right then the text will sto
at the cell boundry.

The cells may not be empty, they may have formula or special characte
in them.

Maybe you could make a new blank column to the right of your dat
entrys
