Letter Bunching Up

Sometimes when I go to print, all of the letters of each sentence bunch up on
the left side of the document and over lap each other. However if I then
close the document and reopen it and then print, it is fine. I am using Word
2003 with SP2 installed. I have tried doing a detect and repair and doing a
total reinstall. But this has not resolved the issue.

Mitch,

We've had the same problem, but not consistantly. We've recently upgraded
from Office 97 to Office 2003 which started the problem. We produce quite a
few data merged letters and forms and cannot predict which text or field will
compress to the left margin.

Have you had any luck in resolving this issue?

Hi Lee,

It seems to relate to temp files that Word uses, often created by the use of an Add-in for Word. (Remove Hidden data is one). Some
of the workarounds for it include
- switching the printer in File=>Print then switching back.
- Using Start=>Search to recycle, before
starting Word, all files found with the search string
~$*.*;*.tmp

I don't recall that it was posted before in relation to mailmerge or automation, but the same factors would likely come into play.
