Let's save XP!

Microsoft plans to end most sales of Windows XP on June 30, despite a deep
reluctance by many business and individuals about moving to Vista. I
personally believe Vista has too heavy of a memory and disk space footprint,
less snappy performance, and it fails to allow one to go back to the classic
look and feel of XP. For instance, what happened to the old fashioned
vanilla folders in Explorer? And the lack of an "UP" button in Vista's
Explorer as well. (Now why did the have to take that away?)

My no.2 PC has Vista SP1 Home Premium and it has no trouble at all with the
Windows Classic look & feel.
What exactly is a vanilla folder by the way?
Regards Mike.

I suspect the OP "meant" manilla folders, but doesn't know better(based
on the rest of the posting contents).

I did mean "manilla" folders. I dislike the vertical ones used by Vista's
Explorer. I do know better actually, the inference that "I didn't know
better based on the rest of the posting contents" is wrong, as an FYI.
Also, one cannot completely totally back to Classic look, b/c you have no
choice but to accept the vertical folders and cannot get the "UP" button
back either.

Vista does have the option to use the classic windows format (but not the XP
format).

I don't understand what you mean by an 'UP' botton. If you mean the button
that takes you to the parent folder, then it is alive and well (at least in
my Vista - in danger of being upgraded to XP).

Appreciate your thoughts about keeping XP. I followed MS Vista NG for a
long time wanting to determine from comments there (and commercial
editorial reviews) if Vista was a worthwhile upgrade. Determined not to
do it, and in fact am sure to tell people whenever I can to NOT even
think about Vista!

Went to your web site to check out this petition. After seeing all the
personal information REQUIRED, closed the browser. Why?

Here's part of what you are faced with; MANY people, including myself,
have had it with people who accumulate personal information then use it
against that party. It happens ALL the time and in fact is a GROWING
problem in the USA. For that reason I did not sign the petition,
although would like to have signed it!

If you have access to tracking information for that site I believe
you'll see a lot more people looking at the page than signing ... and a
LOT of the people looked and turned away probably think like me!

In closing, MS truly will not give a flip whether or not that petition
is presented. They have two things which govern them, MONEY and the LAW.
If people want to hit MS where it counts, don't buy Vista. I didn't
(same as I didn't buy Win ME), and won't!
