Leftover from RC2

After installing Service Pack 2 using the Network Install over RC2, I
have found a leftover from RC2: Running winver, then clicking on
"End-user License Agreement" tells me that I have a 180-day license
for pre-release code, not an OEM license, as I should have.

I am concerned that in 6 months, I will wake up and find my machine
running in Safe Mode, with a message from WPA telling me to purchase
and install a new copy of XP.

Is this a last-minute screw-up by Microsoft, or should I ignore it?
Is there a way to get my OEM EULA back?

Well, I copied my original OEM EULA, which the RC1 installer had
archived, over C:\Windows\system32\eula.txt

The correct EULA now appears in winver. I hope this will keep my OS
from disappearing in 6 months.

You were supposed to uninstall RC2 FIRST before installing the proper final
build. If I was you, I'd uninstall SP2, check the EULA again, then install,
then check EULA again. Post back with results.
"Supposed to uninstall"? Nowhere have I seen any communication from
Microsoft that we are "supposed" to uninstall RC2. To the contrary,
what I have seen is that RTM will upgrade RC2 just fine. Which is
what is what it did.

I fixed the RC2 Eula by simply copying the original OEM EULA over the
RC2 EULA in C:\Windows\system32.

I did the same sort fo thing as you did - 'upgraded' Build v2162 to RTM
last night. My EULA in WinVer maks no mention of 180 days expiry.

Not true. There is no requirement to uninstall either of the release
candidates. SP2 can be installed over RC1 or RC2.

I thought SP2 could only be installed over SP3?

The EULA is there for your reference only, nothing automatic is going to
happen. This appears to be an oversight - the RTM EULA has no reference
to 180 days but did not update the one on HD that had been put there by
a previous RC2 installation

SP2 RTM over RC2 is a supported installation. And the text of the EULA
not having been changed is *not* of itself going to cause things to fail
in 180 days.
