Left Double click brings up properties instead of running/opening.

Left Double click brings up properties instead of running/opening. When I
left double click on a folder or shortcut it brings up properties and does
not run the program. The right click does the default thing and brings up the
list of options. Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks.

Check your Mouse properties in Control Panel -> perhaps the buttons have
been switched there. (First option at the top).
 
I checked the mouse properties and tried changing the settings for switching
the mouse buttons but this did not help. The other button does what its
suppose to do and shows: (Open, run as, send-to, copy, paste,
properties...etc), some how the first button only shows the contents of
properties.
 
What file types do you have the problem with?
