left and first line indent auto format

In Word, how do I get the first line indent and left indent to auto format
when I make a hard return? This is a big problem when I am trying to make a
numbered or bulleted list.
 
Apply a paragraph style from the List Number series: Press and hold
the SHIFT key as you click the arrow next to the Style box on the
Formatting toolbar. Scroll down until you find the styles, and click
the one you want.

If necessary, you can change the style to include different indents:
In the Modify Style dialog box (to display this dialog box, see
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/styles/ModifyAStyle.html), click
Format>Numbering>Customize. Specify values for "Number position" and
"Text position". Click OK to close dialog boxes.
