Leaving local resources at computer

C

Chris

I often listen to music through the internet via a laptop
that I have plugged into my home stereo system via the
headphone jacks on the laptop. It works great, however I
would like to be able to control the laptop from my
office using the remote desktop. I am able to connect
just fine but the laptop will no longer play through the
headphone jacks when I am remotley connected. In fact if
I go to the sound settings when I am remotly connected it
tells me there is no audio device. If I choose to bring
the local resources of the laptop to my desktop that
works, but if I choose to leave the local resoucres at
the laptop it doesn't. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

I am having exactly the same problem. I am using Windows Media Player 9 and
Windows XP professional on the remote computer; Windows XP home on the local
computer.

Suggestions greatly appreciated.

Have you tried starting the sound application first, ie. start Media Play, then connecting via
remote desktop?

Yeas I have tried that. As soon as I connect remotely
the sound just stops. I am stumped.

Change your Fast User Switching settings.... This should solve the
problem until XP SP2 is publically released...

As the other person mentioning the problem, may I say "thank you" also.

However, while I can now play CD's remotely, your workaround does not seem
to allow me to remotely use the copy CD function (for backup purposes).

Any thoughts?

With very best wishes for 2004

Anthony

That's a new one... :)

I'll test it out later tonight and send it in as a bug (hopefully for
XP SP2 timeframe) and see if I can manage a workaround.

Did you try the workaround Al mentioned? This is the only way around
this issue until SP2 is released.
