Leave no cell blank

R

Roy Hobbs

I have "Allow Cell Drag and Drop" checked under
Tools/Options/Edit. And, when I move the cell pointer to
the border of the cell, the pointer changes to a single
left slanted arrow. I can then drag the contents of the
cell. However, it works the same with the shift key
depressed or not. It moves the cell contents, but does
not remove the original row that is now empty.

Any other suggestions?

This does work in previous versions of Excel. Don't worry
about the cell pointer changing. Just put it over the
border of the cell, hold down the shift key, and drag.

BTW, under Tools/Options/Edit, there's a box "Allow Cell
Drag and Drop". Do you have that checked?

Roy, if you are trying to move the row and have it re-
order in Excel based on the move, you have to select the
whole row, then select the outline of the row, shift
move, and you'll see the shift. If you are trying to
just move a cell, you are moving correctly. However,
unless you move either in the same column or row, it
won't get rid of your original cell placeholder because
you have not tried to insert the cell in the way of other
cells in that original row or column. You can try it and
see. If you move one cell to the left of the original,
you'll see it "scoots" the cell to the left over one to
the right and places your moving cell in its place. If
you move up or down, same thing. If you move out of that
row or column, no effect on the original row/column, but
there is the move in the new spot. Hope that makes
sense.
