ldb files exclusive

Jo

When I close my access db the ldb file is visible for a second, then
disappears. However if I open in again, the ldb file appears and I cannot
open my files unless I restart my machine. This happens with any access
database I am using. This is just a new thing that started happening 2 days
ago. Prior to that everything was ok

Any ideas?

The LDB file is a locking file that is deleted with the last user and
created with the first user. That is functioning normally. If you cannot
open files, it is unrelated to the LDB, unless you have a permissions
problem for the folder that the database resides in. In which case, you
should still be able to open the database, but it may be read only.

Thank you for the info. I am not working on any network and no-one else is
accessing the database. The db opens a couple of times but then will no
longer open and the ldb file stays visible in the folder and will not allow
me to open the db. This happens no matter what db I use. I have not made any
changes to any folder permissions

Try doing a Scandisk operation of the hard drive. In Windows XP, one can
initiate this process by opening Windows Explorer. Right-click on the C:
drive. Left-click on Properties in the shortcut menu. Select the Tools tab.
The first item reads "Error Checking". Initiate this process, after closing
all application software. You may also want to reset your screensaver to a
longer time-out period, or periodically move your mouse during this process.

After this is complete, try a Disk Defragmentation on the same tab. These
two operations may take some time to complete. Finally, try rebooting, and
then immediately initiating a repair of Office, by opening any Office
application and clicking on the Help menu. You should see "Detect and Repair"
as one of the options. You may very well need to have your installation CD
handy to complete this process.

If none of these steps works, then you may need to do a complete re-install.
