not sure where it originates but when synching my pda (hp ipaq running pocket
pc) with activesync 3.8 to newly installed outlook 2003 (2000 ran beautifully
but just "stopped" working one day..never to run again..never had an error) I
get and "ldap not available error 52". and slews of unresolved calander
entries (uploading from ipaq to laptop). Primary computer is desktop at work
so ipaq is partnered with two machines. machine at work runs outlook2000 on
an windows 2000 platform and is part of a company network. at home it is a
stand alone laptop

Do you use an LDAP server for your contacts? If not, remove it from
Tools->Mail Setup->Email Accounts->Directories->View or Change.

Install the Outlook Address Book service and you should be good to go.
