layout different on different computers

Hi guys.

I recently made a website on FP 2003, on my computer. I published it, and it
looks great!!!

However, I'm getting some complaints that the site on other computers
doesn't look so good. Sure enough, I visited my site from other computers,
and on some of them.. the layout is all messed up.

How do I fix that?

also to add to my original question.. some people, not all.. get red x's on
some links, or some items don't come up at all on various pages.

An example is here.. http://www.gecentral.com/RidePhotos.htm

Users are complaining about seeing red x's in different spots. It happens on
some computers though, not all. And only on some pages, not all.

The files with red x's are still on you C drive. You need to IMPORT them
into FP before adding them to your page. Look at your code ... that will
usually give you a hint at what is wrong.

Take all the spaces out of you file and folder names (represented here by
"%20). Photos should be .jpgs, none photos such as logos are .gifs.

thank you for the response.

If your theory is correct though, why would it show up on some browsers, and
not all? I just chatted with a person who uses Firefox, and it came up fine.

also to add, the pictures with the red x's are the same pictures on the other
pages on my site, which display just fine.

Your example page is too wide for my browser, and takes an eternity to
load - even on DSL.
In IE, I do not see any problems, other than above. In Firefox, a lot
of the page does not load, but there is no indication that anything is
missing (I would not have known if I hadn't used IE as well.)
Missing items are an image, weather report and site counter in left
column. The missing image is hotlinked from another site - this may
(or may not) explain other missing images for other users, where
security settings prevent display of objects from other sites.

Hi and thanks for quick respons.
The question is stil there: Why doesn´t five images shown on my computer
when they do so on all other computers. As i said before; just one other
friend has the same problem at his computer. Is this a microsoft problem, a
internet problem or...? I have Internet Explorer on my homecomputer and on my
workstation. Is it possible that the problem depends how Windows funcktioned.
I have Windows XP Proffessional.

Are you running Norton Internet Security? The five images are just
the right size to be blocked by NIS for "your own protection". The
firewall will remove the code for these images from the page, you
should see this if you use View Source in the browser.
If you are affected by NIS (or McAffee, or Zone Alarm) try changing
the size, or names, of the images, or try disabling the firewall for
testing - or adding your site as a known safe site, if the firewall
allows this function.

Hi

Yes, i am running Norton Internet Security. Either i activate the firewall
or not it´s makes no differens. I also tried to change to Windows Firewall
but it didn´t work.
Norton Internet Security has the highest security so what more can be wrong.
I hope can solve the problem.

From my previous post:
The
firewall will remove the code for these images from the page, you
should see this if you use View Source in the browser.

Did you check for this when you viewed the site in your browser? If
the code is missing, then dump NIS - uninstall it. I have not, and
will not, use any Norton/Semantic product produced after 2001 - IMO
they are rubbish since then, and good up to then. There are very good
security products about that do not destroy web pages. If you want to
keep Norton, then change the size of your images.

Hej

I followed your advice to remove Norton Security from my computer. But i
have to tell you. It made no differens. On my webside i have still a large
place att the top of the sida there i can´t see any pictures. So now is the
queation; what´s left? Does i think wrong wen i believe that this has to do
with the configuration of the IE. I can´t understand why this problem just
exist on my computer. (And a few others) Now i have another problem with my
Norton Security. Shall i trough it away or....?
