Layers and Dynamic Templates

Hi,

If I have a page that is linked to a dynamic template, can I add and
use layers in that page - inside an editable region? I am trying this
and the layers keep disappearing.

Thanks for all the helpful replies I have been receiving here,
Regards

Yes.
The layers may disappear from Design view if their visibility is set to
hidden, or another layer is superimposed over them, but the layers will
still be present in code view.

If you are adding the layers in the DWT itself, they will *not* transfer to
the page when the page is updated - for that to happen, the layers would
have to be added to a non-editable region.

Thanks for reply, but when I add a layer nothing appears in the Layer
panel to the right, like it usually does when I add layers. Not sure
what I'm doing wrong, but it only happens when i try and add a layer to
an editable region of a page that has been linked to a DWT.

I cannot reproduce a problem -
Position the curser, Insert->Layer
resize and position
View->Task Pane
Change to Layers Task Pane

The layer can be manipulated in Design view, and appears in the Layers Task
Pane.
see www.rxs-enterprises.org/test-layer.htm for a screen dump.

There is one thing to bear in mind - in my layout, anyway. The layer has
been inserted in a table cell, and its actual position may vary in different
browsers and Operating Systems.

Thanks for all the help.

The problem had something to do with the fact that part of the editable
part of my template was a table in a layer. Once I removed the layer
from the editable part of the template, all was fine.

Thanks again
