This is what I was trying to ask in the last post and probably did not ask it
correctly:

I was asked to provide a file that "must be a read-only powerpoint file that
launches directly as a slideshow, BUT it must have the ".ppt" extension.

Does anyone know how to do this?

If you only have the PowerPoint viewer then you can do what you want.
Regardless of the extension it will open in the slideshow mode.

It depends on your definition of "launches directly as a slide show." :) If
you are using Windows XP (I don't know about earlier versions), you can
right click the ppt file and select Show. The presentation will launch as a
show.

Kathy, Thanks for your reply. We are using Windows XP and thanks for the tip
about "right-clicking" to show the slide show. I didn't know that. However, I
don't think that is what our client wants. I was requested to create a slide
presentation in powerpoint. This file will then be uploaded to a website. The
client wants a .ppt file (not .pps) that will open in the "slide show" view.
They also want the file to be "read only". Is this possible?

Do they mean that they don't want anyone to be able to edit the presentation?

As far as extension, why do they care, so long as it does what it's supposed to
do?

Regardless of the extension, you may not be able to fulfill the request. Have a
