Latest W2K Update killed my wifes system

Last night the w2k updated on my wife's laptop. When it rebooted it was a
clean slate. We tried to log into her identity, but it was as if it was a new
install. Looking in my documents we saw all of her files and whatnot, plus
when we log in as an administrator we can see her favorites, etc...

The problem is, i belive, that it is not reconizing her login, and when she
tries it is creating a new login identity using her name, but not using her
setup.

How can we get her idientity back on the computer?

Sounds like the profile may be corrupt. If the profile is corrupt, you can
rename the profile(while logged on as local admin), then when the user logs
on again a new profile will be created from the image in \default user. You
can then copy over the items you need from the renamed profile. Copy the
folder contents not the folders themselves. When your sure you have all you
need, you can delete the renamed profile(s). Use the import function of your
e-mail software. Don't overwrite ntuser.dat

An easy way would be to roll the machine back, using System
Restore, then to re-apply the update. As an alternative you
could try this:
1. Make a note of her old and her new profile folder name.
2. Click Start / Run / Regedit.exe {OK}.
3. Navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList.
4. Open up the ProfileList.
5. Scroll down until you see her new profile folder name
under "ProfileImagePath".
6. Double click it, then change it back to her old path.
7. Reboot the machine. She should now have access to her
old profile folder.

It's called "having a senior moment" (on my side). :)

Of course, I never have those. <cough> ;-)
