I didn't expect the results I read in the latest On-demand test
results from AV-Comparatives.org:

Surprisingly Norton Anti Virus 2010, v17.0.0.136, earned an Advanced+
(the highest rating) with six other products.

Honestly, I didn't believe NAV would make that quick a turnaround.
This same report was also mentioned in Virus Bulletin, without
comment.

I read that report yesterday also. Surprisingly they rated AVAST
Advanced+ and AntiVir as only Advanced despite superior detection
results. Perhaps it was the number of false alarms recorded by AntiVir
that was responsible for the lowered rating.

I use AntiVir Personal Edition for my home computers and believe it is
a great product but I also have legal access to Symantec Corporate
version 10. In lieu of the latest reports I am considering switching
-- maybe.

I believe you are absolutely correct. FPs seem to drag the ratings down.

I also have Avira on another of my systems and it came in #2 in
On-demand detection rates. That's good enough for me when it's free too!

I also have SAV 10 on one of my systems. SAV /has/ served me well for
over three years. With the release of v11, support for version 10
could end soon though. Hopefully not.

Version 11.0.5 is far better than SAV 10, it's night and day in what it
protects vs 10.

Hello Leythos:

That seems to track with the definition files. SEP 11.0 and NAV 2010
use a different definition file when compared to SAV 10.2 & NAV 2007 &
earlier versions.

Perhaps it's reasonable to assume that the current scanning engines
have undergone a /very/ extensive rewrite while still maintaining a
reasonable fast scanning speed.

Perhaps what's left now is hope that a similarly effective rewrite of
the removal tools has also taken place.

Has anybody used or is using or have opinions about "G Data"? It seems to
have scored highly and is inexpensive but I'm unfamiliar with it.
