Last CD remains in memory!

When I put a CD into my CDROM or DVD drive and read it, the replace that
CD with another one to check files etc, the files of the first CD are
still showing even though I have removed it from the drive. This happens
all the time now and I have to reboot my system so I can read the
files on a 2nd CD!, but this does not always work now, sometimes the
files from a previous CD are still showing!
I can only assume that those said files are somehow being held in
memory. Is there anyway I can clear that or any other cure for this
irritating problem which has only recently started

The OS is WinXP sp2 with latest updates.
I have 768mb RAM
2.4Ghz cpu
CDRW is Plexwriter12/10/32S

Thanks

Open My Computer. Right click on the CD/DVD drive. Go to properties |
Autoplay. Make sure prompt me each time is selected.
