Lassooing controls to move them as a group

I have a report with around 64 controls in a grid pattern and I need to copy
all those controls to other reports. I've had no problem doing this where
there is a gap to lassoo them.
However this report has controls abutting the left side and the right side.
When I try to lassoo them it selects an indivdual control. I could expand the
width to the right but how do I lassoo around the left edge?
This has me completely stuck so I hope someone can advise how.

I'd probably select all the controls in the area by click-dragging in the
ruler bar, and then shift-click to de-select the individual controls I
didn't want.

Using your suggested method you don't need to extend the selection rectangle
beyond the left edge of the leftmost controls. It merely needs to include a
part of those controls.

However, you can do it more simply by clicking an dragging down the vertical
'ruler bar' on the left side of the report in design view, starting beside
the top row of the grid and finishing beside the bottom row. This will
select all controls for the full width of the report over the selected
vertical area. You can do the same with the top 'ruler bar' BTW to select
all controls for the full depth of a report over a selected horizontal area.

Select the controls that you can lasso. Then click on the individual
controls you need to add in to the group while holding down Shift.
Also what I have found useful is the fact that if you set some option
in Options (don't recall which) the lasso will select controls if you
only include part of them in the selection (or vice-versa, ie, not
select partially-included controls). Setting that option to suit you
may also help?
