Laserjet printer on WinXP

Is anyone running a LaserJet Series II printer under WinXP through a
parallel port? How is the performance and did you have to do anything

what make is it? eg epson hp etc.Check manufacturers site
eg epson.com for xp driver as you might need it.

I have a LaserJet IIIP connected to a parallel port on my wife's
XP Home machine. It's not a LJII, but the IIIP and the II are
very similar.

Performance isn't great, but it's old and not a fast printer, and
performance wasn't great on earlier operating systems either. It
works fine, and nothing special was required to install it.

Windows XP comes with a LJII driver.

try this site for drivers - assuming the LaserJet is a Hewlett Packard
I know some HP Printers are not XP friendly
may be able to use drivers for Windows 2000

I have a LaserJet IIIP connected to a parallel port on my wife's

Make sure your parallel port is setup correctly in the machine BIOS
(EPP, ECP, etc.) Also go into device manager and check to be sure
you're using the correct port type. Again look for EPP, ECP, and so
forth.

If you're not spooling the print jobs but printing directly to the
printer, that too will slow down printing. And finally, the HPLJ II
is no speed demon, however, it should give satisfactory performance
when printing from a LPT.

Postscript cartridge, and I would expect no difficulty with those, if
you go to Printers - add printer, say it is on the parallel port and
then select in the list for HP as maker. (It might not get found by
Plug and Play, though my LJ 4 does). Note that as it is a roman number
it comes way down the list after all the Laserjets with numeric ids,
like LaserJet 1100 and LaserJet 6 models.

Alex, he doesn't need to use the IID drivers. Drivers for the
plain LaserJet II come with Windows XP. They're a little hard to
find, since for some strange reason, the word "Series" is
inserted between "LaserJet" and "II." So instead of being just
before "HP LaserJet IID, it comes later alphabetically, just
after "HP LaserJet Plus."
