Large icons in Quick Launch?

Kristen Crupi

Hi - Recently, I selected "Small icons" when customizing
the Start menu. After doing that, the icons in my Quick
Launch area (on the Task Bar) are HUGE. I've tried going
back to large icons in the Start menu, rebooting, turning
the Quick Launch area off and then back on, but the icons
are still huge.

Help?

Thanks!

Right-click on your desktop and select Properties > Settings > Advanced.

Under the "General tab" in Advanced Display Settings, adjust your
DPI setting to "Normal Size (96 DPI)" and click "apply".

Hi Nicholas,
Thanks for the info, but this did not resolve the
problem. (Actually, that option was already set to Normal
Site (96 DPI), but I tried switching it to Large Size,
and then back again. There was no change in the size of
these icons.

Any other ideas? Thanks!

Oh, one more thing... note that the only icons that are
extra large are the ones in the Quick Launch area. My
desktop icons are fine. Icons on the Start menu are fine.
System Tray icons are fine.

But all the icons in the Quick Launch area are 4-5 times
the size that they should be. If I add a new one, it is
large as well.

Ugh.

Hi Kristen,

This can happen by opening Accessibility Options, etc. If the icons on the
Quick Launch bar are showing as being larger, it will result in the taskbar
being twice its height and also include the date or similar under the clock.

If this is the case, right click the Desktop/Properties/Appearance/
Advanced. Under the Item drop box choose Caption Buttons and change the
number by one, ok your way out, then rest to 25.

And/or reset your default to the XP Theme.

Other options to consider if the above doesn't help, nor moving the glider
over toward the Start Button to list only three icons in the Quick Launch
bar:

Restore the Taskbar to Default Functionality (Line 164)

Note: Do not reboot or logoff. Once the edit is merged, right click the
Notification Area/Task Manager/Processes. Highlight Explorer.exe, End
Process.

Leave the Task Manager open. Once the process has ended, choose File/New
Task and type in: Explorer.exe.
