Sometimes I compile a big email with a lot of files. I know Outlook Express
will break it into smaller units and the receiving end Outlook Express will
reassemble the parts. But I want to know how many parts it will be before I
start sending. OE reports the number when it has started the transmission.
Is there a way to know the number in advance or is there freeware to do the
same job but better then OE and that does NOT require the receiving end to
install the program?

Encoding generally adds approximately 40% to your file size. So, if you
total up what you're sending and add another 40% and then divide by the size
parts you have set in OE you should have your approximate number of parts.
I generally keep mine set to 500 which is about 1/2 meg.
