Large attachment in outbox has locked up outlook

Hi,

I have a user on a Windows XP PC with outlook 2003. He sent a note to
somebody that had an attachment that was 40 MB. We have been trying to
delete it out of the outbox but we can't seem to make this happen. We keep
getting an hour glass. We took off the option for sending and receiving when
it opens which I thought preventing us from deleting the note. However, I
have tried deleting it a couple of different ways such as highlighting it and
clicking the delete X icon or simply the delete key on my keyboard but it
won't go away. It has totally locked up outlook and prevented him from doing
anything. Can someone help?
