Laptop won't boot

A user's laptop at work will not boot past the windows 2000 progress bar
screen. I've tried running a quick repair on the system, but that didn't
seem to solve anything. The computer boots fine into Safe Mode.

System : Win2k pro w/ Service Pack 4

Any ideas what I try next? ;)

While in Safe Mode:
1) Check the Device Manager for errors.
2) Run a virus/spyware scan
3) Uninstall any recently added software

Are you familiar with clean boot troubleshooting?

I agree with DCorda. Also, in safe mode, check the event viewer log.

Although illegal, you could copy msconfig.exe from a Win XP pc, & paste it
to your 2000 pc. There are some freeware / shareware utilities that give you
the same functionality as msconfig.exe .

When did the problem begin, after installing / removing hardware / software?

If you can access the internet [ safe boot with networking ], scan for viri
at www.pandasoftware.com/products and at www.trendmicro.com .

Thanks guys. ;)

I've checked for viruses using Kaspersky AV, and it's found some, so that
might well help. I can't get in the internet with it at the moment, but when
I do, I'll update AdAware and scan it. The Event Log hasn't given me cause
for alarm... can't find much of use in there for this one. Device Manager's
error free too...

Not sure what happened, as the user says they habven't installed anything on
it recently.

I'll get on with these

Cheers
