Laptop with XP home can't see digital camera

Just purchased a laptop with Windows XP home edition.

I've tried connecting my digital camera to a USB port because the laptop
doesn't have a card reader. However, it doesn't show up as a removable
device, or anything else.
Am I being stupid? Have I missed something. The camera booklet says it
should be recognised.

Hope someone can help.

Many thanks,

Neville

Make sure the USB cable is good and the camera is "on".

Should show up under "My Computer"

Rarely but sometimes you must install the software that came with the
camera.

What type/model etc would be helpful.

Thank you for this reply.

I have solved it now. There was a setting on the camera which I had failed
to notice.

Many thanks,

Neville

You don't happen to have Tweak UI installed? If so you may have limited
the drive letters that will display
