Laptop Users and My Docs

By GPO our laptop users have their My Docs in their roaming profile instead
of beign redirected to their home drive like the desktop users. Management
did not want a limit imposed on the laptop profiles so of course they are
getting quite large and take over 15 minutes to load in some cases. We have
no quotas in place on any of the file servers.
Using offlines folders seems to have the same problem.
Is there a better way to handle laptop user's My Docs so they can have them
offline and have a quicker login? I'd like to hear how others are doing
this. Thanks!

The laptop users here use local profiles. All files are stored on their F
drive and they use offline files for the network files they need.

We create a folder on each laptop called Data and instruct all laptop users
to save all their files here. Subfolders are permitted. We remove the My
Documents icon from their desktop That way none of their documents are
loaded into their profile and it speeds up the logon/logoff process. We then
took an additional step and created a batch file that runs (when they are
connected to the LAN) every 3 days and copies (synchronizes) the changes to
the data folder on the laptop with a folder on their Home Directory. That
way their stuff still gets backed on the server. They can also manually do
this synchronization if they need to. We also point I.E. to a local folder
as well for temporary files... No more 100 MB profiles!!

Hi

Why not have MyDocs redirected to their home drive?
Then you can have their home drive available offline.
With laptop GPO, offline is enabled, and in Desktop GPO, offline is disabled.
