laptop shuts down unexpectedly

My laptop shuts down suddenly after a few minutes of performing a task the
disk. CPU usage shoots abruptly to 100%, the fan inside rotates wildly and
the computer stops quickly. Can anyone please advise me how to troubleshoot
and repair this problem?

Look in your event logs to see what errors may be there....
Back up your all data (you should be doing this regularly anyway) and try a
chkdsk /f on your hard drive. also see if your laptop/disk mfr has any
utilities you can run to check the health of the drive.
