Laptop Safe Mode Fails

When I select F8 for safe mode on this laptop, the screen just shows
gibberish for the XP/SP3 boot. I have never encountered this before
on desktops. What would cause this?

Thanks

Two obvious alternatives:
1. This laptop boots Safe Mode on another key than F8 (see manual.)
2. Or else the Operating System is damaged.

F8 brings up the usual XP menu containing safe mode as a selection.
Maybe the OS is damaged. Seems to run okay though.

Thanks

F8 is the standard Safe-Mode Key for most if not all desktop computer, and
probably many or some laptop. But F8 may not the the Safe-Mode Key for all
Laptop

So, you may GOOGLE for the specific Key Combo. If my memory isn't so bad,
I believe I read some laptop use Ctrl-C (or similar but *not* F8)

If it pops up the Safe-Mode selection then could be OS damaged. Some may
give the REPAIR option and some may not.

It would be nice if all manufactures use the same standard so we can learn
one know all.

This one does not.

The REPAIR option may only available *if* you have the OS DVD in DVD
player.

I don't know if the program is still developing or not, but if you can
find the program called ERD Commander (I used to have the 2005 version)
which is a very nice util to recover damaged OS. I have used it many times
and all I had to do it booting it (it will load to ERD Command safe-mode)
then EXIT it.

That's it! the damaged OS fixed (it always did and I used it til I
upgraded to Win7).

If I am not mistaken MicroSoft may bought it so they can kill it.

P.S. Almost forgot I used it on Windows XP
